O foco principal \u00e9 compreender como fatores combinados \u2014 como o escoamento do rio Zambeze, a din\u00e2mica de redemoinhos e dipolos, e eventos extremos (ondas de calor marinhas e ciclones tropicais) \u2014 influenciam a resili\u00eancia de esp\u00e9cies ic\u00f3nicas e os servi\u00e7os ecossist\u00e9micos em quatro \u00c1reas Marinhas Protegidas (Mnazi-Ruvuma, Quirimbas, Bazaruto e iSimangaliso).<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mo\u00e7ambique e a regi\u00e3o do Oceano \u00cdndico Ocidental enfrentam lacunas cr\u00edticas de conhecimento sobre o papel do Zambeze na produtividade oce\u00e2nica e na conectividade ecol\u00f3gica. O MECOWIO surge como resposta a esta necessidade, propondo campanhas de amostragem f\u00edsica e biogeoqu\u00edmica, modela\u00e7\u00e3o num\u00e9rica com CROCO-PISCES e rastreamento de predadores marinhos, para validar hip\u00f3teses sobre fluxos de nutrientes, transporte de part\u00edculas e vulnerabilidade dos ecossistemas costeiros.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">O projeto ser\u00e1 implementado em colabora\u00e7\u00e3o entre a Universidade Eduardo Mondlane e parceiros regionais e internacionais, com atividades que incluem a cria\u00e7\u00e3o de um laborat\u00f3rio de biogeoqu\u00edmica marinha, participa\u00e7\u00e3o em cruzeiros oceanogr\u00e1ficos e uso de tecnologias de observa\u00e7\u00e3o costeira de baixo custo.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Al\u00e9m da componente cient\u00edfica, o MECOWIO ter\u00e1 impacto direto na gest\u00e3o de recursos e conserva\u00e7\u00e3o marinha, fornecendo evid\u00eancias para pol\u00edticas de sustentabilidade, fortalecendo capacidades institucionais e promovendo coopera\u00e7\u00e3o transfronteiri\u00e7a.
